My patterns

Here I put all my patterns,
the newest at the top...

Virkaholic's Wrist warmer:

This pattern is based on 38 stitches and I used the yarn Drops Saffran, needles US 2½.
The warmers are therefor really small, they fit a normal-sized 10-12-year-old I guess.

To enlarge the warmer just add two stitches at the beginning of round, before the lacepattern starts, so you start knitting patterns on stitch number 3, instead of stitch number 1. Would it be too little, continue to add one stitch at beginning and one at the end, then you will always get the pattern centered on the hand.

Or, choose a thicker yarn, for example Drops Paris/Muskat and needles US 4 or US 6. This is absolutely the easiest way.

Pattern:
Cast on 38 stitches on either double pointed needles or magic loop.

Row 1: purl all stiches
Row 2: Knit all stiches
Row 3: purl all stiches
Row 4: Knit all stiches
Row 5: purl all stiches
Row 6: Knit all stiches

Now you have a garter st border.

Now it's time to start knitting pattern:

Knit the pattern until you feel that the warmer is just the right length, then it's time to start with the thumb.

When there are 2 K from the end, put a marker between K 2 and 3. Increase one stitch, K2 and increase one stitch as the last stitch on the round. You should now have 4 K between the cursor and the end of round.

Now, you increase 1 K after the marker, and 1 at the end of row, every 4 rows - 3 times in total.
Then you increase every other row - 4 times.

Once you have knit the thumb, put the thumb stitches on a safety pin or thread. Now, add up the K2 at the thumb grip and continue knitting patterns until you find the warmer is just the right length

To finish the warmer in the same way as you started:

Row 1: purl all stiches

Row 2: Knit all stiches
Row 3: purl all stiches
Row 4: Knit all stiches
Row 5: purl all stiches
Row 6: Knit all stiches

When you binding off your warmer, you have to use an elastic/delayed binding off, I found one at Billigt Garn that is like this:
To begin the delayed binding off, knit two stitches. Just as in normal cast off.
Then lift the first stitch on right needle over second stitch... BUT do not let go of the stitch on the left needle. Let the lifted stitch remain on the left needle.
You now have one stitch on right needle.
Knit the first unknitted stitch on left needle, just to the left of the "lift-over-stitch". You then glide over that fella you kept on the left needle and knit the stitch to the left of it... and now, let both the stitch you just knitted plus the lifted stitch slip off left needle.
You now have two stitches on right needle.
Nice work! Keep it up! Literally.

Thumbs:
Put stitches on the needles, double pointed needles or magic loop, and when you get to the end you cast on K3 and then you knit stockinette stitch until the thumb is long enough, bind off with elastic/delayed binding off.

How to crochet letters:

I have made the pattern to all the letters, which you can download, click here on this link.
In the pictures, there are boxes which are of a different color than black, you can choose if you want to crochet them or not, but then you have to be consistently through the whole pattern.

  1. When you start, you start in the lower left corner, it's always where the thread should be. Chain as many stitches as you have black boxes.
  2. Add an chain stith that is the "turning stitch", you have to make a chain stitch more to get the right number of stitches in the row behind.
  3. Crochet an equal number of single crochet that you have chain stitches. The first round is finished.
  4. Crochet 1 square = 1 sc and that you always add a chain stitch at the end of each row,
NOTE! But not if you should decrease in the beginning of next round!
  5. Increase in the beginning of round = 2 sc in first sc, increase in end of row = 2 sc in last sc.
  6. When you have crochet all the way (some letters require to cut the thread and start over again elsewhere). To conclude the letter you have to crocheting a round around the edge of the letter in the same color. Remember to crochet inside any hole.
  7. Once you've done two letters, it is time for the black edge. Crochet in back loop on the first round.
  8. On the second round, continue in both loops.
  9. When you have crocheted 5-10 rounds, you can choose how thick it should be, you cut of the thread and save a long piece so you can sew on the other side.
  10. Be sure that you sew together corner stitch with corner stitch in other letter! If you don´t do that, the entire letter will rotate, and it looks ridiculous...

Knit a spiral hat

Pattern: How to knit a spiral rib

  1. I cast on a number stiches of which were evenly divisible by 4 and then I knitted spiral until it was just the right size.
  2. I knitted together purl with purl and knit with knit, so I had ordinary rib left.
  3. I knitted 3 rounds before I knit together the stiches 2 and 2 (1 round)
  4. After that I pulled the yarn through remaining stitches and pulled it together.

Pattern on the coffee cup

Pattern: the Coffee Cup

This is crocheted in Marks & Kattens Tuva and crochethook H

[1] Make a magic ring with 8 dc
[2] * 2 sc in each sc * - 16 sc
[3] * 1 sc, 2in1 * - 24 sc
[4] * 2 dc, * 2in1 - 32 fm
If you have thinner yarn you have to continued until the "coffee" is just the right size. I have thick yarn and stick to only 4 rounds.

[5] Change color, crochet slip stitch in last row of "coffee" 32 sl st [6] Work in slip stitch so that it grows "up", 32 sc
[7] crochet in front loop - 32 sc
[8-9] Work in both loops - 32 sc
[10] Fold your work outward and work in the leftover loop from round 7 and both loops on the raound your working in - 32 fm
[11] Crochet, as far as you need so the cup will be large enough - 32 sc.

I took the bottom of a PET bottle and crochet the cup so it would fit the bottle. In order to gain some weight in the cup so that it is stable, I filled a bag of rice and put in the bottle.

When I reached the bottom of the bottle I decreased:
[x] Decrease every 4th sc
[x+1] Decrease every 3rd sc
[x+2] Decrease every other stitch around the round
[x+3] Decrease every other stitch until the hole is big enough to tighten with the yarn when you weave in the ends.

Handle:
[1] Chain 6 stiches, make a loop with a sl st.
[2] Work 8 sc on the chain.
[3-x] Crochet 8 sc each round until the handle is long enough, cut thread and sew the handle on cup.

Ian´s breadbasket

I have a little guy with celiac disease (and a big guy, on part-time) and we get food, on "recipe" for the little guy. We have boxes full of corn wafers and gluten-free crackers, but he does not eat them.
The other day I realized that if they are available, he might eat more of them? Yesterday when I was sitting watching tv, I crocheted a bread basket to Ian's gluten-free stuff.

Pattern:
Ch 2. In the first of it makes it 6 am (or a magic ring)
Row 1: 2 sc in each sc = 12 sc
Row 2: 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc = 18 sc
Row 3: 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc = 24 sc
Row 4: 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc = 30 sc
Round 5: 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc = 36 sc
etc ...
When is the right size crochet one round in the back loop, without increasing the round.
Since you crocheting just around without increases until the edge is twice as high as you want it, cut the yarn, attached and fold down the edge -Done!-

"The yarn" I have crocheted with the package string from the auto parts store, $2,85 , I think, and this is about 1 skein.

Baby Hat

I got an idea ... a baby hat, not because I know if he will need in the second half of August, but it may be cold, then...If nothing else, a friend will have her baby at the end of November and then it can definitely be nice with a hat. This is 35 cm in girth, but can be used up to 37 cm in head size.Pattern:
[1] 12 dc of the magic ring (12 dc)
[2], 2 ch, 2 dc in each stich (24 dc)
[3] ch 2, increase 1 dc in every second stitch (36
dc )
[4] ch 2, increase 1
dc in every 3rd stitch (48 dc)
[5] ch 2, increase 1
dc in every 4th stitch (60 dc)
[6] ch 2, increase 1
dc in every 5th stich (72 dc)
[7-13] 1 ch, *skip 2 stiches, make 5 dc in 3rd stich, skip 2 stitches, make 1 sc in 3rd st*You may adjust the final shellstich so you get five dc in the previous round first sc. Then, continue around, 1 sc in top of the previous round "shell" and five dc in the valley between the two shells on the previous round.[14-15] 1 ch, 1 sc in each stitch. This I have used:Yarn (24 stitches, 32 rounds)Crochet hook 3.5 mm

Virkaholic's Cellular Blanket

I received an order for a baby blanket in neutral colors, because Mom does not know what the sex of her baby. I make it in "Svarta Fåret Baby" yarn and on the two evenings I have crocheted, it has grown considerably. It is rally easy and fast crocheted with spacious rounds. The edge will be wide in white.

Pattern:
Round 1: Make a chain of chain stitches, as long as you want the blanket wide. If you make the number of stitches divisible with 4, it is easier, the patternpart i 4 ch st wide.

Round 2: Make 1 dc in 4th stitch from hook, 2 ch st, 1 dc in the same stitch as the first dc. Make *1 dc, 2 ch st, 1 dc* in every 4th ch st. Make 2 dc in the last ch st. Turn

Round 3: Make 3 ch st and then 1 dc between the last 2 dc in previous round. Make *1 dc, 2 ch st, 1 dc* in every chain stitch loop in previous round. Make 2 dc in the last ch st. Turn.

Repeat round 3 to make the rest of the blanket.

Cellular Blanket

Well, I started over again on the cellular blanket... Now, I have come about halfway and I have the same size on the crochet hook and blanket have the same dimensions halfway as in the beginning...Description of how to make a cellular blanket, well, how I makes it:
  1. Make a chain of chainstiches as long as you want the blanket wide.
  2. Crochet 2 rounds of single crochets.
  3. Start Row 3 with 4 chainstitches, *skip a single crochet and make a double stitch in the next single crochet, make an chainstitch* and proceed from * to *
  4. To turn, always make 4 chain stitches.
  5. When the blanket is as long as you want it, do 2 rounds of single crochets to end the blanket.
  6. Make a edge round the blanket.

Virkaholic´s Dishcloth

  1. Chain stitches until you have the width you want, make sure you have an uneven number of stitches (=an even number when you chain because you start in the second stitch from the hook).
  2. Single chrochet this round and finish with 1 ch st, turn.
  3. Make the first stitch in the front loop only, and then you make every other stitch in back loop only and every other stitch in front loop only, finish with 1 ch st, turn.
  4. Repeat round 3 until you have the length you want.
